Imagine teens in Ghana – who’ve never even been on the Internet once – being able to search Google on their phones by sending a simple text message! Imagine the educational possibilities this opens up. Imagine parents using their phones to look up their village in Wikipedia, or to find a treatment for the flu, to find how what’s going on in their government.

There are many emerging economies where the majority of residents must use feature phones, flip phones or “dumbphones”. This is because smartphones are too expensive or the infrastructure of the region simply doesn’t support them .
