Review for Boy 21

I enjoyed this book immensely. It really spoke to me in an personal level. I think this book would be great for the teen audience and also adults. I liked how Matthew Quick (the author) let the audience see a different side to a urban youth story.

Most people when they imagine a poor neighborhood and gang rivalries, think of African Americans. But this book switched the stereotype and had the Caucasion in the broke down neighborhood and poor, and the African American as the rich, well to do and comes from a prep school. I think most people don’t really get to read books involved with those switched stereotypes and it could be a breath of fresh air for some. The author also did a good job prolonging the story when learning about Finley’s history and how that impacted the way he acts now. All in all I would give this book 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone interested in reading about basketball, urban stories, and romance.
